Mallorca: a climber’s paradise | Photo blog

Mallorca. The island of parties; home of drunken Brits and their equally drunken Germans compatriots; “that Spanish island with the clubs, right?” Right. But, how about we imagine an alternate island. One with no noise and no crowds. Let’s throw in some stunning blue seas, winding mountain roads, quiet forests of proud pine, and probably the most exquisitely located climbable rock in all of Europe. Now stop imagining. Because if you head to Mallorca in winter, as I recently did, this fictional paradise becomes oh so real.

Now, I’m not going to claim any serious climbing expertise here. Nor am I going to recommend any outlandish climbing routes (at this point in time I climb a 6b tops) or highlight the best climbing regions on this magical island (I’ll leave that to these guys: climb-europe, mountain project, 27 crags).

Instead, I’m going to give you a photo-tour of climber’s paradise. Because, if there was ever a place where photos can explain the feeling of wonder so much better than words, it is among the sandstone cliffs of Mallorca…
